Artist Creates Playful Compositions By Cleverly Arranging Objects
British artist Martha Haversham finds humorous potential in the most unlikely objects. Its artful arrangements combine foliage, fruits and vegetables, and common household objects with leg magazine cutouts. The results are clever compositions that you are sure to have fun with.
In these quirky collages, Haversham finds materials that resemble everyday clothing silhouettes like dresses and pants, then she places a pair of legs underneath. Even items that wouldn’t normally be compared to clothing take on a fashionable appearance when she positions her feet below the hem.
A crumpled brown leaf, for example, looks like a stunning strapless dress. Similarly, a stalk of celery resembles fitted green pants with a dramatic flared opening. Haversham even plays with movement and perspective in his arrangements by depicting chic figures walking, sitting and jumping. Each composition doubles as a runway because art is an unexpected fashion show.
