It’s the 11th anniversary of downtown Tampa’s free, family-friendly Rock the Park concert series, and songwriter Kristopher James, who usually performs solo, celebrates not only by bringing in a full band – the violinists Gina Castellano and Alicia Ward, trumpeter Camila Ferrufino, saxophonist Christian Ryan and local string sensation Melissa Grady on cello, but exchanging vinyl copies of her new album, Kindness never stops in exchange for a backpack or school supplies. “I don’t mind giving away scrapbooks, if that means the kids can have adequate supplies, ”James told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay.
Versatile and super talented hip-hop, producer, engineer and artist Perception is also on the line and will be supported by the workaholic jazz trio Katara. Part of the Wave Theory collective, Perception’s single “Audio suitcase”Shows these talents to the nth degree, proving once again that the hip hop scene in Tampa is everything. Now we all have to do the opposite of a rain dance to keep this show going.
