Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist, singer, whistler and songwriter Andrew Bird is coming to NJPAC in April 2023

The New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) presents Indie darling Andrew Bird, an extraordinary artist who does it all! See Andrew write, perform, sing, fiddle, whistle, sample, loop, and dance at NJPAC in Newark, NJ on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at 8:00 p.m.

Andrew Bird is an internationally acclaimed, Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist, singer, whistler and songwriter. He picked up his first violin at age four and spent his formative years soaking up classical repertoire by ear. Since beginning his recording career in 1997, Bird has released 17 albums and performed around the world. He has recorded with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, appeared as “Dr. Stringz” on Jack’s Big Music Show, and has headlined concerts at Carnegie Hall, the Sydney Opera House, the Walt Disney Concert Hall and in festivals around the world.

In March 2021, Bird released his latest project, These 13, an album entirely co-written and recorded with longtime friend and former Squirrel Nut Zippers collaborator Jimbo Mathus. Captured live on tape, with just the two of them playing and singing from opposite sides of a microphone, These 13 marked the first set of new music Bird and Mathus have created together in more than 20 years.

While Andrew Bird’s performances typically feature instrumental and improvised fiddle pieces amplified by his spinning horns, attendees can also expect to hear material from Inside Problems. With highlights like “Make a Picture,” Joan Didion-inspired “Atomized,” and more, Pitchfork calls it “a warm, collaborative record that feels like balm for fear and loneliness” because it finds the Grammy-nominated musician, songwriter and composer entering “previously uncharted territory”.

No wonder the multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter earned GRAMMY nominations for his albums Are You Serious and My Finest Work Yet. But Andrew Bird has to be experienced in person to appreciate the full extent of his “mad genius” (EW). Inside Problems, his latest studio album, is a lyrical exploration of “late-night bustle and angst…with a relaxed twist, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere” (Pitchfork).

Tickets to see Andrew Bird are on sale now and can be purchased by visiting or by calling 888.GO.NJPAC (888.466.5722) or by visiting in person at the NJPAC Box Office, 1 Center Street in Newark, NJ
