Who is… My name is Georgia James and I am a singer-songwriter from Brisbane. I am really at the start of my career as a musician. My single ‘On Top’ is only my second single. I was a bit on hiatus throughout 2020; it was a pretty crazy time for everyone. But I’m really excited to be releasing music again.
I have the feeling that… I would describe my sound as a combination of 90s rock with a 50s blues vocal tone.
My first gig was … The first gig I played as Georgia James was at the Empire in Fortitude Valley (Brisbane).
When did you choose the name of the band, and was it a unanimous decision … My real name, Georgia McDermott, is not very sexy. Sounds a bit silly, right? So I put my first name and the last name of one of my biggest singing influences, Etta James, together.
If I could tour with someone … The absolute dream would be to tour with the Red Hot Chili Peppers because I’ve been obsessed with them since I was a kid. But I would also love to tour with DMA’S. I think they are awesome.
My favorite app right now is … I’m absolutely addicted to TikTok right now.

The scariest scenario I found myself in was … My friends and I ended up in this really dodgy part of West Philadelphia in a hotel that we thought was just a front for a brothel.
There were bullet holes in the walls and all of these hotel reviews said people were entering the room in the middle of the night. We only saw the reviews after our arrival. It was scary back then, but it’s a pretty funny story now.
Which celebrity / famous person would you like to be the spokesperson for the band … Stevie Nicks. I idolize him.
If you had to live in a city abroad, where would you choose and why? I really love Los Angeles and would love to live there for a while. Unfortunately, I don’t think it will happen any time soon.
Three people you would like to invite around a dinner … Such a difficult question but maybe John Frusciante, Gwen Stefani and Eminem. I would love to choose each of their brains about their varied careers.
If we came to your place, what would you cook for us? Probably chicken korma, although the last time I made it I completely messed it up.
When it comes to pets, are you a lover or an enemy of our furry friends? I LOVE animals, so definitely a lover.
Whatever the expense, send me a case of … Four Loko. It’s that crazy mixed drink from America. When I was in college in Arizona, my group of friends and I were obsessed. They make you very stupid and it’s a lot of fun.
The last time I saw the interior of a gymnasium it was … Before COVID-19.

Do you have phobias? Just normal: spiders. My parents’ place is on land and the big spiders in the house are a reality. The number of times I have had a spider on me. It was traumatic.
Would you ever be on a reality TV show? Absolutely not. It looks like total chaos.
If you could play a prank on one of your friends, who is your target and how do you take them down? Certainly my friend Elise. The number of times this girl embarrassed me, she deserves it. I would probably fill his car with balloons and stick balloons all over the outside. It has been done to me before and it was extremely boring.
