SLC Arts will host summer arts programs for teens

May 28 – POTSDAM – The St. Lawrence County Arts Council is hosting an arts camp for teens this summer, July 11-August 5.

The camp will include lessons in a variety of arts, including creative writing, graphic design, musical theater, and songwriting and composing, for teens ages 13-19.

“All levels of experience are welcome,” reads a press release from SLC Arts. “Students can register individually for each week, but are welcome to register for multiple weeks.”

Each of the classes will be held at the Creative Spirit Community Arts Center, 6 Raymond St. in Potsdam, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Classes are $195 per week per person, but full scholarships are available for students on public aid. Financial need scholarships are also available with a brief question on the application form, the press release says.

To register, visit www.slcartscouncil.org/teensummerarts.

The press release indicates that registrations are filling up quickly and that SLC Arts will open a waiting list if classes exceed 10 students.

Session 1 will be the creative writing class from July 11-15. Students in this course will learn different forms of creative writing and have the opportunity to write and perform their work.

Session 2 is dedicated to Graphic Design, July 18-22, where students will “explore the basics of graphic design and learn techniques for creating their own works,” the press release reads.

Session 3 is musical theatre, July 25-29. The students will learn the fundamentals of the “lyrical scene” and prepare a live performance at the end of the week.

Session 4 is songwriting and composing, August 1-5. Students will “learn music composition and songwriting” and compose a short piece of music to perform at the end of the week.

The press release says each class will be taught by “world-class educators.”
