Tribute to the talented winners of the 2022 Best Jazz Artist and Composition awards

Today we celebrate winners of Recorded Music NZ Te Kaipuoro Tautito Toa | Best Jazz Artist and APRA Best Jazz Composition, which were announced today live on Radio New Zealand’s Music 101.

Aotearoa-born, London-based jazz musician Myele Manzanza won the Tūī for Recorded Music NZ Te Kaipuoro Tautito Toa | Best Jazz Artist for his album Crisis and Opportunity Vol.1while Lauren Ellis won the APRA award for best jazz composition for ‘Papatūānuku’.

Born out of the need to direct her creative energy in a productive direction and sustain her growth as an artist during the Covid 19 lockdown in 2020, Myele Manzanza recorded her album Crisis and Opportunity Vol.1 as a reflection of difficult times.

Recorded Music NZ Kaiwhakahaere or Ngā Tohu Puoro or Aotearoa Sarah Owen congratulates the two musicians for their contributions to the jazz scene in Aotearoa and abroad.

“E mihi ana Myele rāua Lauren. Whether at home or abroad, creativity knows no bounds, and it’s an honor to reward you both with these awards.
